Back from Silence

Hiking in Bir

Farmland, Bir

Women practicing Puja ceremony, Bir

Wild ring-necked parrots, Bir

What an accomplishment and relief! I am on the other side of my 3 day silent zen meditation retreat.
How fascinating. Of course there were moments of frustration and boredom with the body crying out in stiffness… And more importantly there were also moments of bliss and the peaceful quiet in the spaces of the mind. It reminds me of the 1st few minutes after you put in ear plugs where all you sense is the rushing of the cells in the body and this deep vast quiet - similar to the huge inner spaces of the body/mind/universe…. ?
Anyway you can tell I enjoyed the journey of it and have since tried to maintain a daily practice of either meditation or the chanting of mantras… Love it. Endlessly fascinating.
In a couple of days I am heading back down to Delhi to meet Wayne and from there we will fly over to Katmandu and then make our way to Pohkara where we will meet with local guides and trek through the Nepalese Himalayans for a couple of weeks.
I am so excited to do some hiking – life at Deer Park was pretty sedentary for the most part (especially with all the teachings and meditations) so I will be in absolute glee to be hiking and exploring those magnificent mountains I’ve been looking up at for the past month!! It is bittersweet because I certainly will miss Deer Park and all the wonderful people I met – lots and lots of laughter, great talks, connecting, and joy.
I’ve attatched some photos of my little hikes around the village of Bir. Mostly it’s farmland and the life contained within…
